A Christmas card message from Terry Gilliam

Christmas cards… haven’t given any for years. Now, I don’t want to sound like a Scrooge, but they pretty much become instant trash and people rarely make any effort of a message. Just, dear so and so. Happy Christmas. Me. Yea it’s just lame. Write someone a letter, or phone them, or better yet, visit them. In person. And don’t get me started on ecards… It’s not so much the naff imagery, more the lack of effort.

On a more positive note comes this video from one of my absolute favourite creatives in any medium; the sublime genius that is Terry Gilliam. Made me smile.

Have a great time over the holiday period with your families and friends.

How Ink Is Made

How things are made, how they came to be, the origins of stuff. I’ve been fascinated for years and will no doubt remain fascinated and intrigued right up to the day I die.

Charlie McCarthy’s ‘flight patterns’

3747710398 53f252f032 z 500x332 Charlie McCarthys flight patterns

Short and and sweet photographic work from Michigan-based filmmaker Charlie McCarthy.

He shot 156 photographs of insects flying around your everyday street light, each shot a four second exposure. He then put it all together at 12 frames per second to make a wonderful insight into a rarely seen or noticed world. Look out for the corkscrews.

The amazing pencil sculptures of Jennifer Maestre

Aurora detail 500x325 The amazing pencil sculptures of Jennifer Maestre

You might have already seen the odd image of Jennifer Maestre‘s work floating around the ether that is the internet. Her sculptures are quite intricate and no doubt took a lot of skill and dedication, not to mention time and precision. The result is a vibrant and unique piece.

Developers, you’re designing experiences…

somrandomdude Developers, youre designing experiences...

I happened across this last week sometime. It’s a presentation given the week before that by somerandomdude, otherwise known as PJ Onori.

Put together for the Plone Conference 2011 and although it is specifically about GUI design a lot of what he presents is solid design theory, whilst easy to implement, is all too often easily neglected.

Entitled: Developers, you're designing experiences (and you didn't even know it)

Aardman short: Pythagasaurus

Those fine people over at Aardman, you know that studio who brought us the much loved Wallace & Gromit and Creature Comforts, have been producing some self-funded shorts of late.

This is their latest; Pythagasaurus. The story of 2 cavemen and their dilemma when a volcano shows up outside their ‘village’.

Voiced by the self proclaimed part troll Bill Bailey as well as Martin Trenaman and Simon Greenall. It comes with all the charm that Aardman Animations have at the core of their work, it’s also quite funny.

Amnesty International – 50 years

A strong piece from director Carlos Lascano promoting the 50th Anniversary of Amnesty International.

I need say little more than that. More information behind the video can be found here together with a making of video.

Public Resonance

A very simple concept; but often awesome things are simple ideas well executed as this short from Sam Weller effortlessly demonstrates.

Public Resonance from sam weller on Vimeo.

Public Resonance is a short movie that documents a product designed by Sam Weller in collaboration with Yamaha and The Royal College of Art. The device allows a musician or percussionist to literally resonate and connect with their audience by utilising the natural resonance in everyday street found objects.

Following up my first piece for On A Breaks Records and bass producer KidChameleon, is suitably, the 2nd. A man of 2 sides; the Peckham producer and DJ and the countryside farmer. It was this together with Kid C’s love affair with 1950s b-movies and sci-fi drive-thru’s that stood as the inspiration for his; Future Farming EP.
