Parks on Fire by Trifonic, video art by Scott Pagano

Some of you might already be aware of Scott Pagano’s work with his fucking incredible collaboration with Jochem Paap (aka Speedy J) on the Umfeld release or the videos to BT’s last album, Binary Universe. This then is his latest visual delight, providing the video for Tritonic’s new track: Parks on Fire.

This is some next level vivid styled beauty.

Parks on Fire is the latest short graphic film creation of digital artist Scott Pagano. It is an exploration of the complex, interpenetrated, and reflective relationships of structure, form, and motion that both bind and conflict the natural and manmade worlds. The experience is a visual and aural expedition through a series of uniquely explicated environments. Stunning synthetic worlds of micro precision evolve and meld in to landscapes of natural forms evoking the achingly unknowable sublime that is here captured, redefined and expressed via intensive digital reprocessing. Sound and image drive each other to create the uncanny sense that both are emerging from the same dammed-but-divine ethereal engine. The lush cinematic soundtrack is by Trifonic, and is available on their debut release Emergence.

Jojo In The Stars

I came across this stunning BAFTA winning animation from Marc Craste.

Jo Jo in the Stars is a story of love, self-sacrifice, and jealousy played out against a black and white world that is both nightmarish and hauntingly beautiful. This film plays out the heart-wrenching tale of two unlikely lovers: Jo Jo, a silver-plated trapeze artist, and the nameless hero who worships her.

The Scopitones festival.

Real-time motion graphics made with vvvv.
VJ : Digital Slaves and Desaxismundi.
DJ: DJ Pone, Yuksek, Surkin, Dj Orgasmic.

This is some other work from Digital Slaves and Desaxismundi, enjoy. Please can we see more of this in clubs in the UK, rather than the stereotypical video clips you sometimes get lucky enough to see when UK club nights bother with booking visuals. (there are of course exceptions ;))

Stunning engineering as I’m sure you’ll agree.

At the Swiss Center of Technorama, artist Reuben Margolin worked with museum staff to suspend some 450 aluminium rods by 256 wires and connect 3,000 pulleys and sliding bars. The resulting specimen uses pure mechanics—not computer-controlled servomotors—to create almost limitless figurative shapes.

MANTIS presents: Mr Seavers Serpent Mix

So here we have our 3rd MANTIS presents. Coming quite fittingly from our 3rd showcased DJ: Mr Seavers. He was on the show back in mid 2007 and did a storming set live in the studio. We’ve remained good mates since. He helped host the 4th show and around December 2007 we decided to occasionally perform together as CONFOUNDED.

You can find Mr Seavers as one of the residents up at Nottingham’s relentless Pure Filth night. Check Talk To Filth for more details.

Enjoy.

[chart] DVNT and his November Darkfloor 15.

Here’s my November selection of sounds. Enjoy.

DVNT and his November Darkfloor 15.

In no particular order.

Antoni Maiovvi - Tokyo Ultra Funk [Seed]
Beautiful italo disco electro from the forthcoming (probably released now) album release of Electro Muscle Cult. This is just a timeless beauty. I implore you to get this album and fall in love.

DJ Pace - Echo Off (Octave Mix) [mONOmENTAL] forthcoming
Fresh release on the minimal minded mONOmENTAL label, and it’s DJ Pace providing the goods with 3 remixes. Whilst the original track has a stripped feel with a bubbling undercurrent. This remix by Octave jacks it up a touch and adds a twisted dimension to it that is sure to help you loose it at 4am wrecked as you gyrate to the beat, sweating heavily. It’s the little touches of sound snippets that make this one complete with bizarre breakdown.

Rie - Pizzicato Art [Overmind]
New label to me, and a fresh producer. But a great, progressive tech house roller.

Arrestar - Prayer (Grovskopa Remix) [Ante-Rasa]
Glitched out techno. Heavy on the beats and pounding, but with enough work on the other elements to make this stand out from the pack. Grovskopa has really made good on this remix. Check the full release of this for remixes from Black Smith Craft and Charlton. The original is worth a listen n all.

Hellfire Machina - Sign of the Times [dubplate]
Expecting a lot from these guys, otherwise known in the nuskool breaks world as Sunz of Mecha but making themselves known in the dubstep scene. As you’d expect with me charting this, it’s really quite a good introduction into the scene. Heavily dub, but with acres of stepping going on and off.

Kemper Norton - Cowfolding [www.myspace.com/kempernorton]
Lushful downtempo which washes over you like that first cup of brewed tea on a cold Sunday morning.

Ikimashoo Aoi - Everything We Could Hear [Enough Records]
It sounds like something Boards of Canada could have made and that fact alone made me fall in love with this. Beautiful sounds, combined with just the right about of beats to take you into it’s musical journey.

Fall & Regis - C. U. Next Time [Myuzyk]
Hard to choose one track from Fall & Regis‘ debut release on Myuzyk. Their release, Done Up Like A Vicar, is 7 tracks of laid back downtempo and some beatier excursions. This one track is one of those beatier ones, yet it’s still pretty damn chilled stuff and is a joy to listen to. You know what? As this is another free release from the mighty Myuzyk, I suggest you go and get it and just let your ears to the talking.

synchronoise - Little Shit [dubplate]
Electro vibes, big beats, sweet cuts and some great progression going off in this. Check MANTIS 028 to hear this beastie

Amon Tobin - Overwhelming Forces [AmonTobin.com]
Instantly Amon Tobin. Twisted narly introductions suck us in to the aural production delight from a master of the craft. Like a Redneck infested alleywall it batters you about leaving you on the floor missing some teeth.

Nesha Tehnika - Shadows [diggarama]
Dancefloor focused techno. A phat throb nests under the heavily tribal beats and is arse shaking good fun. Part of the 5 tracker release, NBG Driver. Come the first drop and it’s turning into a beastly roller before doubling up with the drums and percussion.

Noiz and Excision - Do It Now [Rottun Recordings]
Tribal drums bring us into a bass heavyweight, with a growling dark skank heavy drop. When the main bass drops this one is ripe for testing those low frequencies on your speakers. Remember those old drum n bass tech steppers? This is like that, but with 140bpm broken vibes. Solid stuff indeed.

Red Box Recorder - Hoovers in the Barn [Acroplane]
With a playful electronica intro before the live sounding drums kick in the breakbeat followed shortly by some large throbbing bass. Good wholesome breakbeat electronica, with a healthy dose of melodic overtones and drops galore. You can grab this beasty, free as part of the Fallow Duuski release on the wonderful Acroplane label. A great multi style evolving track with a dollop of acid to finish off. Just what you ordered sir.

Concrete DJz - Re-Mental [Armatura Records]
Storming hard techno, Serbian style. No messing, darkfloor specialised assault.

Radarsat-1 - Ascending Synthesis [Bass4Bots]
Breakbeat’d electro with a phat as your momma licking some lard bass rift. Perfectly formed electro. [Read more]

UVA + Massive Attack Tour.

UVA  (United Visual Artists) recently performed their latest work on their 4th tour with Massive Attack. Being a fan of their work it’s only fitting I highlight this to you lot.

UVA created a new stage set, with a wide, sculptural LED screen as the centrepiece

[review] FRJ001: Various Artists - Frijsfo Beats Vol.1

Fresh label and some fresh takes on the ever evolving dubstep scene.

Innasket - Static [audio]
Mighty fine darkness with huge rifting bass licks, amply backed up with rolling simply placed drumwork. Solid heavyweight killer. Only gripe I have is that it could develop and evolve more as a track, but in the mix shouldn’t be a problem.

Lewis Hunter - Cut from the wreckage [audio]
Sci-fi eeriness leads us into a big sub and sparse hihats. Sombre minimal and deep. The restrained beats and the sombre minimalistic approach of the supporting elements give this track a glitched sense of depth and space.

Yapsta - Zoompy Riddum [audio]
Skanking 2 step garage vibes with looping vox working. Bold bass means this is likely to be big on dancefloors.

Chas and Dave - Macked Out (It’s My Night To Fight Mix) [audio]
Big moody intro just itching to give up the broken beats, which when dropped do the wait justice. Grimey in texture with a King Crimson esque melodic kind of middle section. Makes sense to me at any rate.

Overall
4 unique and different tracks covering the large range that dubstep can cover make for a strong package. Get this.

Daito Manabe and Electric Stimulus

Daito Manabe stimulates his facial muscles with small electric pulses, synced to music or he can do it the other way, flexing his facial muscles to create sound.

Graffiti on Ruins, Brazilian style.

I came across these ages back but lost the link so better late than never eh? Totally original way of dealing with derelict buildings and ruins. Some areas of London would benefit greatly from this, no doubt there are parts that have been done, anyways, I’ll shut up and let you look.
